Quick recall of times tables up to 12x12 helps children access the Year 3/4 curriculum more easily. More practise can be sent home so please enquire. Science: Light- Notice that light is reflected from surfaces - Find patterns that determine the size of shadows. Topic Early Man What was life like for Early Man? What did they do, eat or wear? How did the development of tools and homes occur? Reading Reading aloud to an adult is still hugely valued in Key Stage 2. Children will continue to move through the reading scheme as in KS1 but as reading fluency improves, we direct focus on reading comprehension too. Children should read aloud to an adult regularly and it is helpful to your child’s progress to have a discussion afterwards about what they have read. Please sign and date in the green Home Reading record each time your child has read. Spellings Spellings are set and tested on a Thursday. Words tested will be underlined. All punctuation will be tested too. We hope to highlight the importance of sentence structure so please practise the whole sentence and discuss any unknown words with your child. Dates to Note Thurs 26th Sept Harvest festival Friday 27th Sept Macmillan Coffee Morning Sun 6th Oct Humber Bridge Sponsored walk Wednesday 25th Sept Cave Day- (Dress up and activity day) Mon 21st Oct Trip to Cresswell Craggs – more details to follow Thurs 24th Oct– Last day of term Fri 25th Oct – Teacher training day P.E Days PE will be on a Wednesday and Thursday. Please ensure your child has their P.E kit in school all week as occasionally these days need to change. All clothing should be labelled with their name. Earrings should always be removed. If the child is unable to remove their own earrings, we ask that they don’t wear earrings on PE days. Tape/plasters need to be provided if their ears have been recently pierced. Daily Mile A change of trainers in a plastic bag should be in school all week as the field can be quite muddy. Homework Homework is set on Wednesdays currently and is due in on Mondays. It will vary between Maths, English and Topic. It should offer the children extra practise of a skill previously taught in school. Stickers are given for completing homework and any extra effort is rewarded by more stickers. Please write in homework books about any issues or struggles. If there are any questions please do not hesitate to ask, Kind regards, Mrs Donald and Mrs Grimbleby
