Example Mr. Trimble is baking a delicious cake. However, he got the cookbook from his trip in Canada where the ovens are in Celsius. Rearrange the formula to solve for Fahrenheit. 𝐶= 5 9 𝐹−32 𝐹= 9𝐶 or 𝐹= 9 5 𝐶+32 What must the American oven be set to if the recipe calls for 190 ˚C? 𝐹= =342+32=374 ˚𝐹

Example Mr. Trimble is framing his old little league jersey in a rectangular frame. Create a literal equation for the perimeter of the frame. P = Perimeter l = Length w = Width 𝑃=𝑙+𝑤+𝑙+𝑤=2𝑙+2𝑤 Rewrite your literal equation to solve for the width. 𝑃=2𝑙+2𝑤 𝑤= 𝑃−2𝑙 2 = 𝑃 2 −𝑙 𝑤= −40=32 𝑖𝑛 If the perimeter of the frame is 144 in, and the length is 40 in, what is the width of the frame? (Use your literal equation)
