The 6th Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) Meeting of J-POW Project was held on 18th October 2016 at Amihan room, PAGASA Science Graden. PAGASA and JICA members joined as well as JCC member agencies such as DOST, NEDA and PCG.

The J-POW project 2nd Awareness Seminars on flood were conducted at Dap-Dap Elementary School on 12th Oct. and at EM’s Bario Elementary School on 13th Oct. in Legazpi city, Albay Province, Southern Luzon. Totally 300 people joined.

The Technical Working Group (TWG) of radar data analysis, Mr
The Technical Working Group (TWG) of radar data analysis, Mr. Michihiko Tonouchi, J- POW expert on Radar Data, Mr. Michael S. Bala and Engr. Ramjun A. Sajulga of NMS, RDTD have been developing software and scripts to calculate rainfall intensity from lower three PPI data (single scanned data by radar) of Virac and Aparri radar.

Through May and June 2016, the Senior Engineer Training for Radar maintenance and operation had been conducting in Aparri, Virac and Guiuan radar stations of PAGASA by Mr. Masaru Wakabayashi, expert on radar maintenance.

The technical working group of weather guidance instructed by Mr
The technical working group of weather guidance instructed by Mr. Ryusuke Taira, the expert on weather guidance, has been working on the automatic production system of the temperature prediction guidance.

The standard barometer which was calibrated in Japan Meteorological Agency has been utilized for the calibration of barometers in PAGASA using the calibrating-apparatus which was introduced at the same time as the standard barometer. In October, Mr. Matsubara brought a digital scale and a weight from Japan and confirmed a performance of the calibrating-apparatus of rain gauges to use for the observation of the rainfall.

Virac Radar Station Two installation teams consisting of consultants and counterparts installed Automatic Rain Gauge (ARG) systems at nine (9) sites as shown in the above map from 17th to 22nd July for the calibration of Virac radar data and introduction of Quantitative Precipitation Estimation (QPE).

To improve contents and accessibility of weather information in PAGASA, Mr. Koji Mitsuhashi, Expert on Weather Information, has been collaborating with PAGASA counterparts. New mobile application and mobile website were developed under J-POW project and launched in June 2016.
