2. Religion Daily prayer Weekly Mass – December 3 April 7 Honor Code

3. Take Home Folder/Student Planner
Students have a red folder to take home and bring back to school every day. Please check the folder every night. Inside the folder is a list of reading words. Students also have a student planner that you should check every day. They will write down homework in the planner and their weekly spelling words. No homework on Fridays.

4. Reading
Students have a list of reading words in their red folder. We will do one list of words each week. Please see the newsletter for the list that we are on. This is a list of the amazing words and high frequency words. The students will be tested each week on Thursday on the words. The high frequency words will be bonus spelling words, starting with book 1.
Students will be using AR in first grade. This is a school wide program. It encourages students to read for points. I will be testing all students to see their level. As the students become confident readers, I will encourage them to take an AR test.
All students will have a monthly reading requirement sheet. As the students read a book, you will need to sign the sheet and return it by the due date. The students will receive a Pizza Hut coupon when the complete the sheet.
Reading books and activities are available on reading street. See the letter for username and passwords.

5. MATH
The students will be using GO MATH. This is a common core curriculum. That means that the students will be using all 8 math practices to solve math problems. The students will be using IXL math. This is a computer math program. The students will be able to access this program from home. Each student will have a username and password. See the letter for directions. IXL The students will be required to memorize the basic facts for addition and subtraction within 20.

6. Language Arts
The students will have a Spelling Test every Friday. The words will be given to them on Friday in the newsletter. They can also be found on the school web site. We will write them in the Student Planner on Monday. The Reading high frequency words will be bonus words, they will not be marked wrong, starting with unit 1.1.
The students will be required to do Show and Tell on their assigned days. This is part of the Language Arts/Speaking grade. We will start after Labor Day. I will send home a letter.
We will work on writing sentences. They will be doing DOL on a daily basis.
The students will be writing on a daily basis. This will involve writer workshop.
