Aims of the Evening To develop an understanding of the expectations, events and challenges facing Year 10. To share a variety of strategies and information you can use to support your sons in their learning; helping them to make a smooth transition to the next stage of their educational journey.

Role of Head of Year The Head of Year
To be responsible for the year group and tutors. To be responsible for the efficient and effective management of the year group’s pastoral care programme. To support the Head teacher and SLT To monitor and support the overall progress and development of students within the year group.

Role of the Tutor First point of contact for students and Parents at Rutlish school. Role and Responsibilities of the Form Tutor To accurately record the attendance/absence of the tutor group at tutor time To seek explanation for every pupil absence and record this information correctly. To monitor attendance patterns of students and alert parents and the Head of Year of any concerns and issues. To monitor students’ punctuality to school and address these issues with parents/carers and the Head of Year. To teach and reinforce school expectations of behaviour and rules. To enforce Tutor reports as per the whole school behaviour policy as required.

How you can support your son?

How can you help? Make sure your son is in school every day.
Ensure he has the correct uniform, equipment and sustenance. Be engaged in their learning and show interest in what they are studying. Monitor homework – parents can usually view homework on Fronter 19. Encourage your child to face difficult tasks and not give up but also to ask for help when in difficulty. Attend all parent’s evenings. Ensure that your son has a revision timetable.

Exams & Assessment All exam board references are contained within the original option booklet. It is important that you you know which exam board your son is doing as revision guides are sometimes specific Pearson Edexcel AQA OCR

Year 11 Exam Season The majority of exams will take place in May and June 2021. The following exams will take place before then and normally happen in March and April of Year 11 PE practical Art Exam MFL Speaking exams Drama practical.

Formal Exam Conditions
All conditions relating to the rules and regulations surrounding exams will be on the web site prior to the start of the exam. If malpractice is suspected then the school has to report the issue to the exam board. This will generally result in the student being awarded a 0 mark for the exam.

Post 16 Your son should be looking at colleges or 6th Forms now to obtain an idea of what grades he will have to achieve to be allowed on to courses.

HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR SIXTH FORM COURSES
Pathway 1: Where students have achieved 8 or more GCSEs at Grades 9-7, including English and Mathematics, students will be eligible to take 4 full A’Levels or level 3 BTEC courses. Pathway 2: Where students have achieved 7 or more GCSEs at Grades 9-6 including English and Mathematics, students will be eligible to take 3 full A’Levels or level 3 BTEC courses, plus an additional one-year level 3 course, the Extended Project Qualification known as the EPQ. Pathway 3: Where students have achieved 5 or more GCSEs at Grades 9-4 including English and Mathematics, students will be eligible to take 3 full A’Levels or level 3 BTEC courses. For all three pathways, applicants must meet the minimum entry requirements for each subject.
