Update on Sawyers Creek upgrade from GDC
In general, all of the areas where Council provides reticulated sewer adjacent to Sawyers Creek, now have new reticulation installed. This includes new laterals to each property boundary. When each respective stage of the new sewer system was completed, Council wrote to property owners outlining a two year timeframe to undertake the required works on their property and connect to the new sewer lateral. The challenge moving forward is to ensure all properties separate their sewer and stormwater discharges and connect to the new sewer only system. Once this occurs, any overflows which may occur during heavy rain events will no longer contain sewer. The old combined sewer/stormwater system will be a stormwater only system and any discharge to waterways will be stormwater only. Council has recently resolved to commence enforcement action to ensure properties do separate their discharges and connect to the new sewer only system. This process will likely take some time given the number of properties still to connect and the limited resource of drainlayers available in the district. The first 25 letters are being sent out to property owners on 19 July The process of enforcement is likely to take a number of years, but Council is showing a strong commitment towards ensuring this work is completed. Specific number of properties yet to connect to the new sewer only scheme, within the Greymouth area pending

Alluvial Gold Mining Consents
Activities associated with alluvial gold mining include: general earthworks, earthworks in a riverbed, diverting river / stream, taking and using water, discharging water, discharging sediment to land & discharging sediment to water Depending on the scale of those activities it may be a “permitted activity’’ – no consent / permit required, but conditions have to be adhered to such as advising council work being undertaken, or consent required. If the activity is proposed in an environmentally sensitive areas, such as a wetland consents and conditions are more restrictive. Exploration and mining need different consents.

Outstanding Freshwater Bodies
The Grey River Water Conservation Order covers two areas The waters of the Blue Grey River, its tributaries and Lake Cristabel. The Ahaura River, upstream of Hamers Flat This group could recommend that the two are put forward for future consideration for landscape, recreation and ecological reasons Any others?
