10. What are standards-based grades?
Standards-based grades are a way of reporting a student’s level of mastery of grade level standards
Standards-Based grading seeks to provide meaningful feedback so teachers, students and parents can track student progress toward mastery of key academic concepts, reflect upon strengths and weaknesses, and identify multiple pathways to deeper learning
To support students in answering: Where am I going? Where am I now? How can I close the gap?

11. Course Grading Explained
Grades are based on a standards based grading policy. In class, students will complete a combination of standards-aligned formative and summative assessments.
Subjective factors like attendance, effort, and attitude are not included in the grades. 
In standards based grading, we will report proficiency and work habits separately in order to give a more accurate report of student progress. 

12. What this looks like day to day…
Students will be engaged in the same content but may complete different tasks throughout a unit.
The end result of mastery will be the same, how we got there, might look different.
This allows for students to develop and understand ideas at their own pace and their own way.
Some days, we will be doing the same thing.

13. Formative and Summative Assessments
Formative assessments work as practice. Homework, classwork, or class discussion, that allow students to practice the skill or progress their learning are all forms of formative assessments. Formative assessments build up to summative assessments. Students are not penalized on learning the standard by formative assessments, rather they are encouraged to try and possibly fail as opposed to not trying at all.
*Formative assessments will appear in the grade book but they do not count towards a student’s overall average directly.
Unit exams, quizzes, and large projects are all summative assessments. Summative assessments demonstrate student’s mastery of the standards after they have practiced the skills and standards. Students are encouraged to retake or revise complex summative assessments if they struggled to demonstrate the mastery expected. This is learning!
Redos are usually scheduled for during lunch on specific dates that will be announced in class.
