1 Progression in Bridge Introducing Level Awards. You will receive a cert upon achieving any of the levels below based on observation. Bronze Silver Gold Platinum Diamond **Need to be working toward Gold or higher to be eligible to represent Ireland in any national or international competition

2 Bronze award Bidding Open any hand with the correct bid
Open and rebid suits to show the correct shape Open a suit and rebid NT when out of range Bid suits in the right order when responding Understand what factors are involved for an overcall Card Play Count winners / losers Count Suits Set up your long suit Entry management When to draw trumps Show proper etiquette, courtesy and respect at all times

3 Silver award Bidding Use “double” correctly in some sequences
Stayman & transfers Blackwood, Gerber & RKBC Overcall opponents 1NT Losing Trick Count [LTC] Card Play Establish tricks by ducking Ruff losers/Set up a suit by ruffing Finessing Leads in defence Cross Ruff Show proper etiquette, courtesy and respect at all times

4 Gold award Bidding Use and understand a reverse
Use takeout / negative doubles appropriately Respond correctly to Takeout / negative doubles Respond correctly to overcalls Card Play Take the bidding into account when declaring Use count, odd/even, suit preference signals when defending Demonstrate safe and danger hands Demonstrate an avoidance play. Understand the difference between imps and mps Continue to show proper etiquette, courtesy and respect at all times

5 Platinum award Bidding Show the ability to use judgement
Use cue bidding to bid / avoid a slam Use 4th suit forcing and its implications Demonstrate various reasons for 3rd in hand openings Card Play Demonstrate an elimination play (NT and trumps) Demonstrate a safety play Perform a trump promotion in defence Demonstrate basic statistical percentages and use. Demonstrate a dummy reversal Play in a club outside of school Continue to show proper etiquette, courtesy and respect at all times

6 Diamond award Bidding Demonstrate protective bidding
Understand the law of total tricks Use lebenshol and 2NT as a relay in different sequences Demonstrate a knowledge of 2 suited overcalls and defences to them Use the UCB Unassuming cue bid correctly in competitive auctions Card Play Demonstrate a trump coup Demonstrate a coup en passant Demonstrate your declarer plan formulisation and continuations Demonstrate a simple squeeze Play regularly, attend coaching, play national events Continue to show proper etiquette, courtesy and respect at all times

7 Selection process What the junior committee want
Consistency/motivation. Continual practice/improvement. Attend coaching / read !! Playing in competitions / clubs

9 Other things to note Current rankings it is envisioned will be available on the junior website. This process operates the whole year (1st July to 30th June). Each year is a new year. Some events require advance notice and planning for those involved. In such cases the rankings on a pre determined notified cut off date will decide who goes. There is no catching up or banking practice time. The amount of practice will increase at higher levels (eg) Pb pairs play 15 boards a week. JC pairs play boards a week. Beginners 10 boards etc ** It is 100% the responsibility of the pairs to report their results ! **
