Conclusions & Future Work
UMTS phase 2 needs interworking between different access networks: DECT, GSM, UTRA, USRA WLAN, Hiperlan Service mobility over FMI networks Co-operation of Telenor: national: NTNU, Sintef international: Ericsson, SUN, BT, EURESCOM Stepwise HW design - HW receiver part - Include transmitter - Extend to full UMTS International co-operation for full demonstrator: EURESCOM ACTS: SORT Final goal ‘cheap demonstrator’ for research and development open architecture open API
19
Telenor UMTS demonstrator
UMTS phase 1 demonstrator: supplier solution, interfaces not available limited experience due to number of terminals limited hint for network planning (capacity question) Telenor is UMTS operator gain experience on services UMTS phase 2 demonstrator: not ready before 2001 limited experience due to number of terminals open interfaces extension towards WLAN/Hiperlan co-operation with research
20
The vision for Telenor Be first in Europe to operate UMTS (in one area) limited area (Gjøvik, Steinkjær) at an early time, e.g. Q1.2001 invite Ericsson, Nokia, etc. to join the pre-operation operational equipment available, BTS & Mobiles Telenor is UMTS operator best public relation: first in Europe gain experience on services realistic (?) traffic, test for implementation of services
