3 Ambassade, sted, tid og avsender Tema 16 pkt The EEA Grants The EEA Financial Mechanism is funded by 3 donor states – Norway (95%), Iceland and Liechtenstein Overall objectives – reduce social and economic disparities in Europe, strengthen bilateral relations Bulgaria participates in the EEA Financial Mechanism since 2007 Funding provided in 2007-2009 - 21.5 mln euro, based on an intergovernmental agreement

10 Ambassade, sted, tid og avsender Tema 16 pkt Funding under the EEA Grants New financial period A new financial period of EEA Grants is agreed – Bulgaria will receive 78,6 mln. euro for 2009-14 A programme approach is introduced – 8 thematic programmes will be developed The preparation and the implementation of each programme is assigned to a Programme Operator Conservation of cultural heritage and support to student and academic mobility remain a priority

12 Ambassade, sted, tid og avsender Tema 16 pkt Funding under the EEA Grants 2009-14 Cultural heritage The designated Programme Operator for the Cultural heritage programme is the Ministry of Culture with support from the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works Up to 2,5 mln. euro are envisaged for phase II of SAMCA project Not less than 500 000 euro shall be set aside for a small grants scheme for promotion of diversity in culture and arts, including cultural exchange between the Donor States and Bulgaria.

13 Ambassade, sted, tid og avsender Tema 16 pkt Funding under the EEA Grants 2009-14 Scholarships The designated Programme Operator for the Scholarship programme is the Ministry of Education, Youth and Science Overall objective - enhanced human capital and knowledge base in the Beneficiary States Total funding – 1,5 mln. euro Norwegian Centre for International Cooperation in Higher Education (SIU) will function as a lead Donor Programme Partner.
