The film was originally titled Bush According to the director, "It's a behind-the-scenes approach, similar to Nixon (1995), to give a sense of what it's like to be in his skin. Christian Bale was originally cast in the role, but dropped out after he was not satisfied with the prosthetic makeup. Photos ©2008 Lionsgate. Review ©David Bruce

W. is the profoundly American story of George W. Bush, a man who wrestled with his personal demons in the long shadow of his father, found God at 40 and made an incredible turnaround that ultimately led him to the White House. Photos ©2008 Lionsgate. Review ©David Bruce

W. follows his journey from a Yale frat house to the oil fields and baseball diamonds of Texas, all the way to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Photos ©2008 Lionsgate. Review ©David Bruce

Act One is the seeds of the man: young, rebellious, a failure at all enterprises – until the age of 40, when he turns it around. Photos ©2008 Lionsgate. Review ©David Bruce

The second act comes off his conversion to Evangelicalism, his turnaround in his personal habits, the imposition of a ferocious willpower. He becomes a baseball team owner, and then a two- term governor of Texas, and for a period of time, he projects an image of bipartisanship. Photos ©2008 Lionsgate. Review ©David Bruce

The third and conclusive act is his presidency –concentrating on the beginnings with focus on that crucial era between October 2001 and March 2003, when he finally went to war with Iraq. Photos ©2008 Lionsgate. Review ©David Bruce

Consensus voice: A bold but imperfect film about a most imperfect man --Kirk Honeycutt, Hollywood Reporter Photos ©2008 Lionsgate. Review ©David Bruce

OLIVER STONE: A son in many ways competes with his father, rivals his father. The Bushs don't like to talk about it. But going back to the Greeks and the Elizabethans, the father- son relationship is a great, rich, juicy source of drama. The fathers omissions are visited on the son; in a sense, they become the sons sins. Photos ©2008 Lionsgate. Review ©David Bruce

In his approach to this biopic of George W. Bush, director Oliver Stone said, Its much more interesting and real if you try to empathize and understand, if not always approve. In a broader sense of everyday day, I find these words an very good rule of thumb. What a different world it would be if we all approached each other with empathy and understanding even if we dont always agree or approve. The main question/point of the film is, How will history remember you? Now there is a good question to ask, not just of G. W. Bush, but of ourselves. As Socrates famously wrote, "An unexamined life is not worth living." Review ©David Bruce

INTERESTING PARADOX Men's relationships with their fathers may be among the most important and influential same- sex relationships they form in the life course. However: Male-male relationships are generally less affectionate, less close, and less intimate than female-female or opposite sex pairs. --From by Mark T Morman and Kory Floyd (bnet) Photos ©2008 Lionsgate. 18 HOW WILL HISTORY REMEMBER YOU? "We make a living by what we get; we make a life by what we give. -- Winston Churchill Photos ©2008 Lionsgate. Review ©David Bruce
