We’re in the ARMY Now We’re in the ARMY Now
2
We’re in the ARMY - Now I may never march in the infantry
Ride in the Calvary Shoot the artillery I may never fly o’er the enemy But I’m in the Lord’s army I may never march in the infantry Ride in the Calvary Shoot the artillery I may never fly o’er the enemy But I’m in the Lord’s army

We’re in the ARMY - Now 2 Timothy 2: Suffer hardship with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4 No soldier on service entangles himself in the affairs of this life; that he may please him who enrolled him as a soldier. 2 Timothy 2:2-4 (ASV) 2 And the things which thou hast heard from me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. 3 Suffer hard ship with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4 No soldier on service entangles himself in the affairs of this life; that we may please him who enrolled him as a soldier.
4
Enlisted us in his army We’re in the ARMY - Now
The Lord enlist us in his army when become Christians
5
Know the Enemy We’re in the ARMY - Now Know the Enemy
Our opponent – our enemy – Satan is a powerful force A master at attacking our weakness Satan use a number of tactics to temp us to join his army We are in a desperate spiritual battle that is as real as any actual war
6
We’re in the ARMY - Now Ephesians 6: For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world-rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12 (ASV) For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world-rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Satan bombards us daily with temptations and lies We often yield because of our desires and lust
7
We’re in the ARMY - Now James 1: but each man is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed. James 1:14 (ASV) But each man is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed. Materialism, fame, pleasures, compromise, deceits, apathy Half truths, twisted ideas, sly tactics - on and on Satan is the Father of lies He may also come with every imaginable kind of “in your face” immortality He is a roaring Lion
8
We’re in the ARMY - Now 1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be watchful: your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour, 1 Peter 5:8 (ASV) Be sober, be watchful: your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walking about, seeking whom he may devour, Just like the IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices) hidden along the highways Satan may plant unseen spiritual roadside bombs when we least expect them He may lure us with secret sins – seemingly harmless – but very deadly Martin Luther once likened Satan to a: “snarling dog that is chained in place, who can only do you harm if you’re foolish enough to come too close.” In the military this “getting to close” is termed “fraternizing with the enemy” A soldier who associates with the enemy is despised and disgraced We dare not get too close to sin.
9
We’re in the ARMY - Now 1 Corinthians 5: I wrote unto you in my epistle to have no company with fornicators; 1 Corinthians 5:9-10 (ASV) 9 I wrote unto you in my epistle to have no company with fornicators; 10 not at all meaning with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous and extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world:
10
We’re in the ARMY - Now James 4: Be subject therefore unto God; but resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. James 4: Be subject therefore unto God; but resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
11
Be Properly Trained We’re in the ARMY - Now Be Properly Trained
We must train properly to become effective soldiers There is no difference when training for the Lord’s army Soldiers just don’t show up half way into the training session There expected to be a good soldier. Our training session began at 10:00 May I say as kindly as I can If you were not here at 10:00, you were A W O L. In God’s Army Good soldiers endure rigorous physical training and mental conditioning They push themselves often beyond what is expected They study technical manuals and everything they can to get ahead of the enemy They know if they miss a “training session” they are very likely to be overcome by the enemy With even more passion, shouldn’t we be involved in spiritual training Not missing a single training session
12
We’re in the ARMY - Now 1 Timothy 4:7 7 but refuse profane and old wives' fables. And exercise thyself unto godliness: Discipline Discipline 1 Timothy 4: But refuse profane and old wives' fables. And exercise thyself unto godliness: It takes discipline to become a good soldier and keep yourself from the enemy It takes discipline to become a good soldier in the Lord’s army It just is not enough to show up late for training and expect to be a good soldier. In mans army or the Lord’s army.
13
We’re in the ARMY - Now 2 Timothy 2: Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15 Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. A little boy once took a Bible from the coffee table in his home and asked his mother, “Is this God’s book?” “It certainly is!” his mother said “Well, don’t you think we might as well send it back to God? We don’t use it here, do we?” Too often Christians can relate to this. Like soldiers, we also need to develop a plan by setting aside time for training. What if the soldier was always late to his training session or even did not come Maybe because he had something else to do? Nothing would please Satan than to have his enemy miss training sessions
14
Use Effective Weapons We’re in the ARMY - Now Use Effective Weapons
Our soldiers use the most sophisticated weapons available to combat the enemy That might mean bringing out heavy artillery like missiles and tanks. It would be very ineffective for the soldier to engage the enemy with a hand grenade When a missile is needed. It’s the same with us. The Lord has not left us defenseless or powerless We have all the needed armor.
15
We’re in the ARMY - Now Ephesians 6: Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Whole armor Ephesians 6:13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Notice what we are to put on ► “whole armor” Not just one or two pieces
16
We’re in the ARMY - Now Loins girt about with truth
Breastplate of righteousness Feet shod with the preparation of the Gospel of peace Shield of Faith Helmet of salvation Sword of the Spirit Ephesians 6: Stand therefore, having your ► loins girt about with truth, and having on the ► breastplate of righteousness; 15 And your ►feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 Above all, taking the ►shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And take the ►helmet of salvation, and the ► sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: These weapons of peace and power will extinguish the fiery arrows from Satan But if you miss the “training sessions” you will not know how to put on the whole armor You will not know how to use your armor
17
We’re in the ARMY - Now Ephesians 6:18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints Ephesians 6:18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; Prayer is one of our most effective weapon against the devil
18
We’re in the ARMY - Now James 5: Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. Confidently - Humbly James 5:16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. Sadly, after we have tried everything else, prayer often becomes our last resort Prayer needs to be our first line of defense Remember to pray to God ►confidently, yet humbly Another powerful weapon in our arsenal is the great intercessor, the Holy Spirit Even when we don’t know the right words to pray, The Holy Spirit will petition the Father on our behalf
19
We’re in the ARMY - Now Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helps our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groaning which cannot be uttered. Romans 8: Likewise the Spirit also helps our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groaning which cannot be uttered. The Holy Spirit gives us strength to stand against our evil desires and pride Remember, there will be no time to call a meeting when our fight with Satan begins We need to put on our armor beforehand – not during the battle
20
Accept Your Role We’re in the ARMY - Now Excellence - Faithfulness
In the Army, a private is not expected to perform as on officer However, both have important duties that are essential in fight the battle Not all will be teachers, preachers, Deacons or Elders, but all have responsibilities There are NO unimportant soldiers in the Lord’s army Strive for ► excellence and faithfulness where ever you are needed Be as faithful in the Lord’s army as you are to you wife, your job, or your school attendance We all need to be present at all the assemblies or the training sessions.
21
Trust Leadership and Respect Authority
We’re in the ARMY - Now Trust Leadership and Respect Authority Trust Leadership and Respect Proper Authority Just as soldiers place their confidence in the leadership We as Christian soldiers must place an unshakable trust or faith in our Captain What if a soldier told his leader he would only be present when it was convenient? Unlike armies of men, Christian soldiers know how this battle will end We have been assured of our victory But we must be a faithful soldier of the Lord’s army
22
We’re in the ARMY - Now Romans 8:37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. Romans 8:37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved u
23
We’re in the ARMY - Now Romans 8:38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Romans 8:38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
24
We’re in the ARMY - Now Romans 8:39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Although assured of this victory, we must be faithful soldiers
25
We’re in the ARMY - Now Revelation 2:10 be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life. Revelation 2:10 be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life. What valuable lessons we can learn from the military. We as Christians are often removed from the battlefields of life With Satan, the lines are drawn and he stands poised to strike at any time Let us continue to serve faithfully as strong soldiers in the Lord’s army
26
We’re in the ARMY - Now 2 Timothy 4:7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: 2 Timothy 4:7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, and I have kept the faith: This battle is the most important battle in you life
27
We’re in the ARMY - Now Know the Enemy Be Properly Trained
Use Effective Weapons Accept Your Role Trust Leadership and Respect Proper Authority Know the Enemy ► Be Properly Trained Use Effective Weapons Accept Your Role Trust Leadership and Respect Proper Authority When the battle is over and the Lord comes will these words be a comfort to our souls
28
We’re in the ARMY - Now 2 Timothy 4:8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. 2 Timothy 4:8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing
