2 The Mende African tribe of Sierra Leone (30%)
Mostly farmers and hunters. Hundreds of thousands were stolen and brought to America (16th -18th Centuries).

3 La Amistad 19th Century schooner built in America.
Owned by a Spaniard who lived in Cuba. Illegally transported slaves from Cuba to America. Slaves overthrew the ship, but were tricked into sailing to America (1839) Case goes to Supreme Court.

“Who we are is who we were” – John Quincy Adams (La Amistad) John Quincy Adams The Sixth President of the USA ( ) Son of John (2nd President) and Abigail Adams. Defended The Mende in front of the Supreme Court. Always argued that a president could abolish slavery under his powers during war time.
