The Causes of Biting and Devouring The Catalysts of Biting and Devouring The Cessation of Biting and Devouring Galatians (5:14,15) is our main text for today: “For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ But if you bite and devour one another, beware lest you be consumed by one another.”

Some General Truths The problem of biting and devouring one another stems from the heart. (Matthew 12:34) We must be careful to remember that life and death are in the power of the tongue. (Proverbs 18:21) We should never underestimate the dangers that the tongue poses. (James 3:5,6)

The Causes of Biting and Devouring
Callousness- “I don’t care about your needs.” (Luke 5:29-32) Competiveness- “I have to be considered the best and most important.” (Luke 9:46-48; III John 1:9,10) Criticalness- “I have to put you in your place.” (Philippians 2:14)

The Cessation of Biting and Devouring
We must determine in our hearts that we will not allow any corrupt communication to proceed from our mouth. (Eph. 4:29) We must be motivated by the fact that we will have to give an account for every idle word we speak. (Matthew 12:36,37) We must learn to “THINK” before we speak: T (Is it truthful?) H (Is it helpful?) I (Is it inspiring?) N (Is it necessary?) K (Is it kind?)
