3 Instituut voor VerbintenissenrechtAcademiejaar 2011-2012 Art. 22: Aims of the Doctoral Training It is mandatory to submit at the same time two files to the Doctoral Committee: Doctoral Thesis Project Doctoral Thesis Project Doctoral Training Proposal Doctoral Training Proposal Why a Doctoral Training? 1° to educate you as a researcher 2° to deepen and enlarge your knowledge 3° to provide you with new skills, important for your doctoral thesis and/or your future career  Central role of your Promotor, Supervisoring Committee and Coordinator

4 Instituut voor VerbintenissenrechtAcademiejaar 2011-2012 Art. 23: Functions of the Training Coordinator 1° helps the Doctoral Student with filing the Proposal of Doctoral Training and the Request for Certificate 2° informs the Doctoral Students and their Supervisor about the applicable rules 3° organizes Doctoral Classes and approves Doctoral Seminars. 4° advises the Doctoral Committee.

6 Instituut voor VerbintenissenrechtAcademiejaar 2011-2012 Art. 24: Structure of the Doctoral Training Training consists of Two parts: Truncus communis Truncus communis = 5 mandatory tasks Additional part Additional part = it is mandatory/obligatory to realize this, but you choose the tasks

One publication of quality in an internationally reviewed journal or two other national publications of quality in the language of the scientific forum or area = substantial and original = article in a journal or in a book, monograph or a chapter in a book > < annotation, chronicle, newsletter, purely electronic publication If you hesitate: ask the Coordinator

Two Doctoral Seminars (give a lecture dealing with your doctoral research, an actual topic or one of your recent publications): Announced in time (2 weeks in advance) by the Coordinator Announced in time (2 weeks in advance) by the Coordinator Public: doctoral students can attend free of charge Public: doctoral students can attend free of charge At our Faculty of Law, unless an exception is admitted in advance by the Coordinator At our Faculty of Law, unless an exception is admitted in advance by the Coordinator Personal presentation of min. 1 hour, with Supervisor & SC present Personal presentation of min. 1 hour, with Supervisor & SC present Always in concertation with the Coordinator Always in concertation with the Coordinator ! One of both has to deal with (parts of) your doctoral research and is at the same time your oral progress report (art. 13).

One active contribution to or presentation at an international congres/conference = by giving a lecture or an equivalent = ask for some opportunities to your Supervisor = does not have to deal with doctoral thesis = networking is the message

10 Instituut voor VerbintenissenrechtAcademiejaar 2011-2012 Art. 24: Structure Truncus communis : 4. 16 hours attendance to classes or activities organised for doctoral students = choose Doctoral Classes out of the Program 2011-2012 = you are free to choose, but: prefer classes dealing with Methodology to classes dealing with Skills = attendance to a Doctoral Seminar of one of your colleagues can not be taken into account as a class, unless announced otherwise Important: congresses or workshops can be valorized as a class if you submit your demand in advance to the Coordinator (attach the program)

Progress reports approved by your Supervisory Committee = art. 13 Regulations 2008 = presentation of one of the Reports (the one dealing with your Doctoral Research) is at the same time one of your Doctoral Seminars (supervisor and Supervisory committee must be present)

Valorization is only possible for activities achieved during the last 5 years before your request.
