This presentation will show you the context of your study – in terms of the HSC syllabus outcomes for Area of Study… demonstrate understanding of the concept of belonging in the context of your study

Dont waste your time on aspects of the text that are not relevant to the context of the area of study You should look for evidence from each of your texts which fit into the following categories (or contexts) of belonging and not belonging Your summary / research / analysis of a text is as simple as 1, 2, 3! 1 = locate 2 = select 3 = organise Where to start?

*Perception = insight – view – opinion – attitude – awareness Possible answers = 1.Belonging to a place is fundamental to an individuals sense of belonging (Felix – his garden and Poland) 2.When an individual is forced to leave the place and society in which he/she belongs – he/she will be more resistant (or unable) to belong to a new place and society (Felix) 3.Individuals who do not share a groups connection with a particular place will feel a sense of alienation from that group. How does The Immigrant Chronicles reflect the way an individuals (and a groups) attitudes about the world and belonging are modified over time. Different narrative voices reveal different perspectives about belonging to different places over a period of time. Felix is resistant to belonging to the new world – he was forced to leave the place and time and culture where he belonged.
