User Council DINO-DO 23 september 2010 Portal Soil and Subsoil Robert Jan van Leeuwen en Matthijs Poelmans
2
User Council DINO-DO 23 september 2010 Three reasons 1.Present portals do not perform (Q1 2009, DINO) 2.The Key Register for the Subsurface demands a new portal (medio 2009, BRO) 3.The Geologische Dienst van Nederland/Geological Survey of the Netherlands needs a look of its own (medio 2010, GDNL)
3
User Council DINO-DO 23 september 2010 What type of websites are covered by the Geologische Dienst NL? 1.A number of content websites (e.g. geosites) 2.A special purpose site (delfstoffenonline) 3.Two portals for data distribution (DINOLoket, NLOG)
4
User Council DINO-DO 23 september 2010 Content websites provides general information regarding the geological survey or sites of geological interest user community: the public, those interested in the subsurface of the Netherlands, website without functionality specific look and feel (content)management by third party
5
User Council DINO-DO 23 september 2010 Special purpose www.delfstoffenonline.nl issuing specific information (sand/gravels for building purposes) specifieke user community: extraction companies website with specific functionality: viewer on the GIS-database of the DINO-system specific look and feel contentmanagement by DINO-ICT
6
User Council DINO-DO 23 september 2010 Two data portals the portals have specific content the essential purpose is the distribution of a broad array of datatypes each portal its own data datacentric user community: experts each portal its own community look and feel each portal its own both websites essentially the same functionality (view, download, order,…) on the DINO-database contentmanagement by DINO DM (portalmanager) NLOGDINOLoket
7
User Council DINO-DO 23 september 2010 1 Present portals do not perform technologically out of date technically not maintainable content not maintainable not userfriendly (any more) DINOLoket has a serious barrier (subscription) NLOGDINOLoket
8
User Council DINO-DO 23 september 2010 Data portals: present situation DINO DINOLoketNLOG AB deep shallow
9
User Council DINO-DO 23 september 2010 2 BRO demands a new portal minimal requirements (1) General user friendly proven, modern technology (september 2009: Flex) maintainable without barrier datacentric broad functionality user community: experts Specific distribution of all types of BRO-data (one stop shop) new look and feel new data new users “BROLoket”
10
User Council DINO-DO 23 september 2010 2 BRO demands a new portal minimal requirements (2) New data domain Soils bijv. groundwater licences (more types of) sample analysis … New users e.g. soil experts municipalities and most of all more users, more use high demands performance & usability fresh look and name “BROLoket”

User Council DINO-DO 23 september 2010 Input VROM and Alterra 20100630 Concept discussed with Joop Okx (Alterra) and Dirk van Barneveld (VROM) Alterra, i.e. the “STIBOKA” must have its place in the system to secure the relation between soil maping and the BRO blijft bestaan Consequence: replace the name GDNL by Portal Soil and Subsurface/Portaal Bodem en Ondergrond

21
User Council DINO-DO 23 september 2010 May 2010 sessions with internal and external users to get input for the Rough Design (RD), with a.o.. Fred Olie (Haskoning) Janco van Gelderen (Bodem en Grondwater Prov. Utrecht) Noortje Heijnen (IF Technologie) Vera Lagendijk (Vitens) Hermi Hagendijk (ATP) The RD contains basic principles, boundary conditions and overall functionality for BROLoket The RD is input for an interactionmodel (= what functionality is available and how is it stuctured) The RD is input for the interactiondesign of functionality (= how does it work, e.g. the viewer) Rough design dataportal (1)

User Council DINO-DO 23 september 2010 Interaction model and interaction design are translated into in Use Cases. Use cases describe all user operations and the response of the system. Examples: what does an error message look like? what checks performs the system regarding my input? what happens when I click “return” ? Use Cases will be reviewed by users Organisation dataportal
