WORKPLACE BULLYING Carroll Brodsky in 1976 is the first one to talk about harassment at work Workplace harassment: a harassment behavior involving repeated and persistent attempts by a person to torment, wear down, frustrate, or get a reaction from another person (Brodsky, 1976). Workplace bullying: an ongoing behavior in which one or more individuals engage in with the intent to harm, humiliate, threaten or intimidate one or more persons in the workplace

WORKPLACE BULLYING Research question: How effective are the strategies used in preventing workplace bullying? Thesis statement: The strategies currently used to stop workplace bullying are not effective in preventing workplace bullying. In 1986, Leyman will use mobbing to talk about bullying at work.

FAILURE OF POPULAR STRATEGIES Current strategies do not integrate/consider the beliefs and attitudes of people towards bullying Based on wrong assumptions Solutions are part of the problems Ignorance of learning theories

SOLUTIONS IN THE LITERATURE Development of a typology of workplace bullying behaviors Ethical practices at work Proactive approach to workplace bullying Integration of attitudes and beliefs in bullying prevention strategies
