Policy Letter 08-01, due to be cancelled (superseded by new policy). New Rule reduces the amount of service required and the options for qualification offered under old regulation 46 CFR (i.e. 2 yrs sea service in other departments, Graduation from a school ship, completion of basic training by a Cadet etc.
Mariners who began their service before 03/24/14 still may qualify under the old regulations.
Mariners must complete a CG approved course to show the practical demonstrations. 5

NO CHANGES, may use former assessments.
Beginning 03/24/14, Endorsements issued prior to this date will remain valid until their specified expiration dates. 8

9. PSC/PSC-Limited 46 CFR /15
Mariners who hold an endorsement as Lifeboatman or Lifeboatman-Limited issued before January 1, 2017 will be issued PSC or PSC-Limited upon showing evidence of at least 12 months of sea service within the last 5 years, provided the sea service is completed before January 1, 2017. 9
