In Greece, a child with SEN may : Attend a special school Attend an inclusion class in a mainstream school Have parallel support from an SEN teacher in the mainstream school
7
For children in kindergarten assessment of social skills is made through: Structured questionnaires ( completed by the parents at the KDAY centre)- assessment tests A report compiled by the kindergarten teacher Observation of the child made by the SEN teacher of the KDAY Centre in the school
8
For children in primary and secondary schools, assessment is made: With the help of the SEN teacher (of the inclusion class or offering parallel support) through reports and assessment materials *In secondary schools, inclusion classes are few and do not function sufficiently. Observation from the SEN teacher of the KDAY Centre visiting the school In the Special Vocational Education and Training Workshops (EEEEK), children with severe difficulties are trained to develop social skills and skills for independent living
9
Structures to develop autonomous living in Greece are few. Programmes of such, exist in some Municipalities- in the form of Playscheme Creative Activity Centres. Children with sensory difficulties attend special programmes at the special school of their disability after school hours or on weekends Assessment of these is made through the general assessment of the child, without the possibility of the school intervening, or of the Centre (KDAY Centre) or of some other Service of the Ministry of Education
