 Make sure it is completely filled out.  For the section, “Position Desired” do not put “anything” in it. Be specific.  Give a range for salary expected.  If you put a person’s name down, give both first and last name.  Be detailed about experience and your title.  The “Reason for Leaving” should never have anything negative.  Never say “don’t know” for any section.  List employment history in correct order and follow all directions.  Make sure spelling is correct.  Give complete and through information for education field.  Make sure you have complete information for your references.  (Willow, 2010), (WORKSC.org, 2012) HOW DO YOU FILL OUT AN APPLICATION IN DETAIL

 http://www.careerchoices.com/lounge/files/jobapplication.pd f http://www.careerchoices.com/lounge/files/jobapplication.pd f  What is the first thing you do on an application?  Where can this information be found?  Why is this information so important? SAMPLE APPLICATIONS

 Dress to impress and be ready to interview.  Make sure your contact information is correct  Include your education information and where you are in school  Never leave a section blank, be honest and list your skills  List extracurricular activities and positions you have held in those activities  Have 5 references instead of 3 that are NOT related to you! (with contact information for each. Teachers for example.)  List your skills like your aptitude for computers since you went to an online college. Be detailed.  Make sure to speak with the manager when you turn in your application. Be persistent and wait for them patiently!  Follow up the next week and call the employer. Ask for an interview. (Glass, 2012), (Willow, 2010) HOW DO YOU FILL OUT AN APPLICATION IF YOU DO NOT HAVE EXPERIENCE?

 A resume it a 30 second commercial. It is an overview.  An application it a complete essay or film on you and your work experience.  Summarizing on a application can get you fired! Be exact.  You have to give criminal information. Talk to a lawyer about expunging your record.  Be honest about having collected unemployment benefits.  Be honest about any disability that you have that will effect your job performance.  An application is a signed contract unlike a resume. (John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 2012) THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN APPLICATION AND A RESUME

 Do make sure you write neatly and make the application look neat and professional. You can take the application home and make copies.  Do make sure your dates and salaries are CORRECT.  Do contact your references and pervious employers. Potential employers will call them!  Be specific and detailed and use complete sentences  Emphasis skills that will relate to the job. Don’t leave things out but if you have clerical skill and it is a clerical job, in should be on your application.  Remember you don’t have a second chance and an application can be your first and only chance.  Show from the start that you are a goal orientated person by giving extra information not less.  Give yourself time to be through on an application and to interview after.  Do check in and follow up on any application. Squeaky, polite candidate gets the job! (Cole, 2012), (John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 2012) APPLICATION DO’S AND DON’TS

 Discussion of ethics and applications.  http://www.ehow.com/facts_6174704_illegal-previous-job-off- resume_.html. http://www.ehow.com/facts_6174704_illegal-previous-job-off- resume_.html  It is okay to leave off short term, entry-level, unrelated and unbecoming jobs on a resume NOT an application  Only if there are no gap and if really feel it should not be there, be prepared to address it in an interview  In the interview, give a brief explanation and do not go into detail and make it positive  IF you were fired you can leave it off be ready to have a great answer in an interview (Lachner, 2012), (Robles, 2012) ETHICS AND APPLICATIONS
