What have been the social and economic impacts of the enlargement of the European Union (EU)?

Enlargement of the European Union The EU is an example of a trade bloc. Every country within the bloc has agreed to trade freely with the other members and also allow free movement of people between their countries. In 2004, the EU was enlarged to include countries from central Europe such as Poland. Unemployment in some of the member states, e.g. Poland, was high.

Some people warned that a flood of migrants would move the UK, Spain, Germany and Italy to find work. If they did, would it be a good or bad thing for the UK and other wealthier members of the EU? Discuss with the person next whether migrants moving to places like the UK is good or bad thing?

How has newly industrialised countries (NICs) such as India and China benefited from globalisation? Newly industrialised countries such as India and China have benefited from globalisation with economic growth, due to their interdependence in the global economy. Their economies have benefited from recent technological changes and from the interdependence created by flows of people, ideas and investments.
