5
Why does quality matter to business notebook users?
Why is quality important to business notebook users? A mobile working environment can present certain challenges to business users, such as more wear and tear on their notebooks and an increased risk of downtime. These problems can lead to unnecessary time and money spent for IT services and decreased productivity for the business as a whole. Quality notebooks decrease the problems that business notebook users can encounter, maximising their uptime and resulting in business value for the company. TOSHIBA E-LEARNING CENTRE MODULE 1: Toshiba Quality – Best Business Value
6
Why does quality matter to business notebook users?
What do business notebook users think about quality? In a recent survey of business notebook users, quality was ranked as the top criterion in buying a notebook. How do quality notebooks benefit mobile business users? High quality notebooks, which focus on resolving the issues mobile business users face, lead to better business value. Increased efficiencies and lower costs are essential for businesses to maximise their competitive edge. “Quality” a priority for business notebook users TOSHIBA E-LEARNING CENTRE MODULE 1: Toshiba Quality – Best Business Value

Toshiba’s approach to quality
What is Toshiba’s approach to quality? In order to deliver business value, Toshiba starts with the customer and the customer’s needs. There are several steps in this complex process, including: customer surveys focus groups analyst data feedback from the services and support group reseller/channel surveys input from product managers who talk to clients TOSHIBA E-LEARNING CENTRE MODULE 1: Toshiba Quality – Best Business Value
10
Toshiba quality: customer-centric
What is an example of a product that was developed as a result of customer surveys? Toshiba EasyGuard is an example. In a customer survey, business users were asked to identify their top mobile computing concerns. They identified security, protection and connectivity as the top three concerns. Toshiba EasyGuard was developed in response to these concerns. The chart on the next slide highlights some of the Toshiba EasyGuard features that meet the customer-identified concerns for mobile computing. Toshiba quality - quality in product design
How does Toshiba ensure quality in product design? Continuous improvement to product features underlies Toshiba product design philosophy. This philosophy entails: conducting customer surveys and focus groups getting input from global product design/engineering teams conducting innovative research and development adhering to industry computing standards, such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth manufacturing environmentally-friendly products through RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) compliance TOSHIBA E-LEARNING CENTRE MODULE 1: Toshiba Quality – Best Business Value
21
Toshiba quality - quality in product design
Examples of design features that have resulted from continuous improvement The 3D Accelerometer detects when the notebook is suddenly moved or dropped and quickly parks the HDD in order to safeguard user data. The increased size and thickness of the HDD dome protection means that the case is now 1.44 times stronger, resulting in 45 to 55% less HDD bending. TOSHIBA E-LEARNING CENTRE MODULE 1: Toshiba Quality – Best Business Value
22
Toshiba quality - HALT testing
What is HALT testing? In HALT (Highly Accelerated Life Test) testing, notebooks undergo a variety of stress tests that simulate the challenges a notebook will face during its lifetime. For example, notebooks receive repetitive shock vibrations and exposure to extreme temperatures (under -25o C and above 70o C) in the HALT testing chambers. HALT testing chamber TOSHIBA E-LEARNING CENTRE MODULE 1: Toshiba Quality – Best Business Value
23
Toshiba quality - HALT testing
Why do notebooks undergo HALT testing? Accelerated lifecycle testing is a key factor in identifying and isolating possible quality issues during notebook development. The notebooks that undergo this testing are more durable and less likely to suffer hardware failures during their lifecycles. The Tecra A8 and Satellite Pro A120 were both developed using HALT testing. View a video of HALT testing. TOSHIBA E-LEARNING CENTRE MODULE 1: Toshiba Quality – Best Business Value
24
