Emergency Equipment Checking (EM-Check)

Emergency Equipment –Tagged Oxygen Bottles –Tagged Life Vests, etc… All controlled items have RFID tags attached and are located in the aircraft configuration. RFID scanner reads tags, checks life limit and physical locations. Parts are replaced as directed. Results are uploaded to the application server. Operations check and reports future action required.

Set-up Process 1.Configure Aircraft Type Physical Locations. 2.Define Equipment Types to be managed and their location on the aircraft type. 3.Download configuration data to mobile scanner for a specific aircraft and equipment type. 4.Induct aircraft by installing and scanning tags attached to the equipment. 5.Upload the scanned data to the application server

Maintenance Check Process 1.Check Planning produces a Check report for an aircraft and prepares any replacement parts indicated based on NEXT check date. 2.Download the aircraft data to mobile scanner 3.Staff Scan the aircraft for the selected equipment 4.Remove and replace items identified by scanning tag off and tag on. Upload changes to the server. 5.Operations review reports and alert purchase planning of future part requirements.

Oxygen Generator Check Currently takes 13 man hours to complete on B777* with EM-Check, with EM-Check, less than 5 minutes RFID EM-Check * JAL/Boeing/TS study – Dec 2006 Oxygen generator

Benefits Summary Check labor reduced by 99% using RFID technology. Maximum-life asset utilization and inventory reduction Improved maintenance planning, advanced purchase planning avoiding AOGs Smaller jobs can be assigned to line stations Eliminates wasted labor checking parts that are still OK
