TWO HOMES Author: Claire Masurel Publisher: Candlewick Press Year: 2003 This is a fiction book written for families wanted to show their children just because they are divorced does not mean they do not love them. It shows pictures of a child at both homes and happy at the same time. I think I could use this when teaching a lesson about what is different and what is the same. The pictures are similar but different enough that it would help them identify the differences. Two Homes would help children with divorce and it is a good choice because it really shows children how happy they can be living with two parents in different homes.

THE LOPEZ FAMILY: SCIENCE FAIR DAY Author: Monica Bey-Clarke and Cheril N. Clarke Publisher: Dodi Press Year: 2011 This is a fictional picture book, written for children that know someone who is gay or their family is a gay marriage. It is designed to help them feel comfortable in their situation at home. I could use this book with Spanish speaking children, and when the science fair was approaching this would help explain that. I think it is a good choice because it gives me different avenues to teach the students including science and even though families may be different they are still a family.

ALL CATS HAVE ASPERGER SYNDROME Author: Kathy Hoopmann Publisher: Jessica Kingsley Year: 2006 This is a great fictional picture story that could be tied into an animal lesson talking about how their bodies move differently than ours, along with teaching children about Asperger's. The book gives small details about the disability along with a playful picture of kittens. I think it is a good choice because it is whimsical and fun and still educates families and other students about the disability.

A VERY SPECIAL CRITTER Author: Gina and Mercer Mayer Publisher: McGraw-Hill School Division Year: 1992 This is a prefect book to help little ones feel excepted by others, it also helps children that have not been around students in a wheelchair to see them just as any other child. It is a fictional picture book that could be used in an respect for others lesson or how to show feelings for children with disabilities lesson. It also has a lot of great sight words to help the students remember them.

A PICTURE BOOK OF HELEN KELLER Author: David A Adler Publisher: Holiday House Year: 1992 This is a wonderful non-fiction book that has been told over many years but this one has great pictures to go along with it. Helen Keller of course was blind and deaf and this would teach the children about overcoming obstacles. Many lessons could be built around it including respect of others and the students could come up with their own non-fiction biography about themselves. I like the story for exceptional needs class because it really gives a wonderful lesson to the children.
