5. When does it happen? The storms are simply two phases in which there is an irregular fluctuation between warmer than usual and colder than usual ocean temperatures in the region. The storms oscillate abut every two years. -El Niño is the warm, dry storm, La Niña is the cool, wet storm.

6. Danger! El Niño and La Niña can cause flooding, tornadoes, and overall destruction. -There are research buoys for studying the storms that cost about $50,000 each, and can be destroyed by the storms. -The last El Niño caused 23,000 deaths and 32 billion dollars in damage.
