a found poem is the poetic equivalent of a collage in visual art Found poetry is when the poet uses language from non-poetic contexts/non- poem sources to create a poem Found poems can adhere to traditional poetic format or even in free verse Found poems may follow a rhyme scheme, a specific meter or syllabic form

Subject “YOU” Arrange phrases or words Set up your narrative and don’t worry about making it poetic yet Re-arrange and tell a different story about yourself, get your poetic muscle working Write your poem on a piece of binder paper

Put away your clipping in your envelope Put your draft away in your binder

Arrange your poem according to your draft Play with the poem’s structure Do you want a rhyme scheme? Do you want a metrical beat? Have a conference….or two

Look at your poem for › Line breaks › Spacing › Length of lines

Glue poem to cover of core composition book (gluesticks) With a partner cover with contact paper
