Steps To Submit 1. Read the funding announcement or request for proposals 2. Download application instructions from the agency to which you are applying 3. Download and print the Proposal Transmittal Form from Sponsored Research’s website http://www.research.fsu.edu/contractsgrants/forms.html

Download Adobe Software Go to www.grants.govwww.grants.gov Click on the hyperlink to make sure you have correct version of adobe http://www.grants.gov/applicants/AdobeVersioningTestOnly.jsp Click on “Apply for Grants”

How to Download Your Application Go to www.grants.govwww.grants.gov Click on “Find Grant Opportunities” Click on “Search Grant Opportunities” Click on “Advanced Search” You can search several ways for your grant – By Keyword – By Funding Opportunity Number – By CFDA Number – By Agency and subagency

How to Download Your Application Under Advanced Search I searched by the funding announcement number for an un- solicited NIH R01 application “PA-07-070” Then click “Search” at the bottom of the page

How to Download Your Application The Next Page will show you the search results Now click on the hyperlink under “Opportunity Title”

How to Download Your Application The next page will bring up a synopsis This is general description of the grant that includes – A link to the full funding announcement – Eligibility rules – CFDA Number

How to Download Your Application Now click on “How To Apply” Your grant’s info will be listed Under “Instructions and Application” click on the hyperlink “download”

How to Download Your Application The next page allows you to do two things – Download www.grants.gov specific instructionswww.grants.gov – Download the actual application

How to Download Your Application If you click on “Download Application Instructions” it will either bring up specific www.grants.gov instructions for this grant or it will provide a copy of the complete funding announcement www.grants.gov

How to Download Your Application Click on “Download Application Package” The next screen will bring up your actual grant application package NOTE: if you cannot view the package, you do not have the correct version of Adobe

How to Fill-in the Application The information at the top of the application is only the identifying information. No action is required in these fields

How to Fill-in the Application In the “Application Filing Name” field enter only an identifier to your application – This field will not support your entire application title – This field is only for FSU internal tracking purposes – An example would be “Dr. Kirby Kemper 2010 R01 Application”

How to Fill-in the Application The “Mandatory Documents” box contains all of the forms you MUST fill-in to submit You highlight each form separately and click “Open Form” Now fill-in all fields in yellow AND any other applicable field like your title or county

How to Fill-in the Application Once you have filled-in all of the information on that page, you can either close the form or go to the next page of the form. To do that look at the buttons at the top of the form

How to Fill-in the Application Once the form is complete click “Close” at the top of the form This will take you back to the application

How to Fill-in the Application If a form requires an attachment click on the correct button to “add”, “delete”, or “view” the attachment Here is what the buttons will look like in a form

How to Fill-in the Application Follow the same method for completing a form with the “Optional Documents” box Optional documents may not be optional for your grant application. Please refer to the funding announcement instructions for clarification on whether or not they are required or option

After Application is Complete Once the application is complete please do the following things: – Make sure all documents have been moved to the completed side – Click on the “check package for errors” button Please fix any errors listed NOTE: this check does not check for content

After Application is Complete Things to do continued – “print” and “save” your proposal in that order NOTE: The “print” button will not print our your attachments. You will need to print those separately for your files Once you save your application, email it to your Sponsored Research Services (SRS) administrator. To find out who your SRS administrator is call 644-5260 or visit this link: http://www.research.fsu.edu/directory/srs.html

What Needs to Happen Next Send your signed transmittal form to your SRS administrator Follow-up with the administrator to make sure they received everything they need Sponsored Research will be in contact with you to fix anything or they will submit the proposal within 3 business days
