1 Tips on Studying and Academics Use the study buddy tool on the DHFS webpage to find people to study with go to www.utexas.edu/student/housing then look under current residents, on-line services www.utexas.edu/student/housing If you have a bad beginning GPA it’s very hard to bring it up – actually anytime you GPA is low it’s hard to bring up but not hard to drop fast!

2 Where can I go for help with academics? Talk to your faculty and/or TA Check out the UTLC in Jester Check out the Academic Community Center programs in Jester and Kinsolving Find friends and classmates to study with Be sure to talk with your RA for guidance and more resources!

3 I want to get involved! Make sure you manage your time well…it’s easy to get over involved! Commit yourself in quality not quantity. Check out all the campus organizations by going to the S.A.L.D. Office’s web page http://deanofstudents.utexas.edu/sald/ http://deanofstudents.utexas.edu/sald/ If you like to play sports for fun or just like to exercise look into Intramural Sports and the Rec Center and Gregory Gym!

5 Did you know… A drug citation/criminal record can affect your Federal Aid Serving alcohol to a minor(s) will cost you your driver’s license, money and possible jail time Drinkin’ and Druggin’ does affect your memory UT does have help for people facing issues with dependency and abuse UT does have a recovery group program

6 Are the halls safe? They are as safe as you allow them to be… – Lock your door at all times (including when you are just hanging out in your room) – Do not let someone you don’t know onto your floor or in the building – Keep your key and ID with you at all times and do not lend it to anyone – Report all suspicious people to a Residence Life staff member right away

7 Ring! Alarm Buzz! What’s going on, on- campus? If you have a prank caller, hang up then pick up the phone and immediately dial *57, following that call UTPD at 1-4441 and tell them what happened! If there’s a fire alarm going off and you can hear it…leave the building! 9 The Red Zone What is it? For 1 st year college women, the Red Zone of danger is the period of time between move- in day and the first holiday break. Again and again, women are raped during these weeks by men they meet on campus.
