5 EXPOSURE ASSESSMENT u INITIAL DETERMINATION l To determine whether employees are exposed at above the action level l May rely on historical data

6 EXPOSURE ASSESSMENT u NEGATIVE INITIAL DETERMINATION l No exposure at or above the action level l Additional monitoring is not required unless there is a change in: v equipment, process, control, personnel or task resulting in levels at or above the action level l Document

7 EXPOSURE ASSESSMENT u POSITIVE INITIAL DETERMINATION l Exposure at or above the AL and below the PEL u Conduct monitoring representative of each exposed employee l May use historical data l Additional monitoring - every 6 months l Document

9 METHODS OF COMPLIANCE u Exposures > PEL for more than 30 days per year l Engineering Controls l Work Practice Controls

10 RESPIRATORY PROTECTION u REQUIRED: while engineering and work practice controls are being installed or implemented during activities when engineering and work practice controls are not feasible where engineering and work practice controls are not feasible to reduce exposures below PEL

11 RESPIRATORY PROTECTION u Must be provided whenever an employee requests a respirator.

12 RESPIRATORY PROTECTION u Must provide a PAPR whenever an employee requests one and it is protective against the level of exposure.

13 EXPOSURE > PEL u Respiratory protection u Personal protective equipment u Change rooms u Showers (where feasible in construction) u Eating facilities u Hand washing facilities

14 HOUSEKEEPING u Maintain surfaces as free as practicable of lead accumulation.

15 MEDICAL SURVEILLANCE u Exposure > AL for more than 30 days per year l Medical exam l Biological monitoring

16 MEDICAL REMOVAL Average of last three blood lead levels > 50 g/dL Average of blood lead levels over the past 6 months > 50 g/dL u Return u Benefits

17 EMPLOYEE TRAINING (within 180 days) u REQUIRED: l EXPOSURE > AL l ANNUALLY

18 RECORDKEEPING u EXPOSURE DATA AND MEDICAL SURVEILLANCE l 40 years or duration of employment plus 20 years u MEDICAL REMOVAL l At least duration of employment
