MOST REWARDING EXPERIENCE In 2005 appointed as a Deputy Principal and believed in the following: Exclusion of educators in goal-setting and decision making processes of the school As a manager, I should be respected and my instructions should be obeyed at all times Educators should be told what to do Authoritarian leadership style will ensure educator performance

4. OUTCOMES (Results were not favorable) Many educators left the school Increase in failure rate Increase in drop-out rate

5. CHANGE PROCESS In 2007, I was chosen to register for the ACE:SL and learnt the following aspects: Participative Leadership style Acknowledgement and appreciation of good performance and Changed my leadership style Involve educators in goal setting and decision-making of the school Started to acknowledge and appreciate good performance

6. RESULTS Educators started to attend their classes regularly and even walked an extra mile Improved communication in the school Emergence of warm and accommodative climate in the school Team teaching Improved learner performance Improved results

7. MY MENTOR AND ME (GONNIE LEURS) Helpful in: Completion of portfolios School visits-motivating learners (Mentoring is central to school leadership)

STRENGTHS OF THE PROGRAMME Practice and site-based approach Transformation oriented Mentorship Provision of leadership and management enabling the school to give learners quality education Provision of professional leadership and management of curriculum Strengthens the professional role of the principals Provision of structured learning opportunities thus promoting quality education in schools

10. Did the ACE: SL help improve the performance of learners in my school? Before ACE:SL results were ranging from 30%-60% After ACE:SL results are ranging between 73% and 100%. THANK YOU
