2 Shelby ordered cases of snack crackers for her Math Club meetings
Shelby ordered cases of snack crackers for her Math Club meetings. Each case had 20 packages of snack crackers in it. If Shelby ordered 3 cases of snack crackers in March and 2 cases of snack crackers in April, how many packages of snack crackers did Shelby order in all? 60 100 40 25

3 Let’s review factors What are factors? If I want to find all the
factors of a certain number, what number do I start with? How do we know when to stop?

4 Let’s Review some other things we’ve learned
What are some multiplication combinations we can use to build arrays for the number 12?

5 Learning Goals Identify a number as prime or composite
Identify square numbers Use number characteristics such as these to solve problems.

6 Guiding Questions How can number properties help me solve problems?
How can number properties help me decide which strategy to use?

7 Focus There are some numbers that only have one array (one multiplication combination). Turn and talk with your partner, and see if you can find four of them. These numbers have a special name, does anyone know what it is? GLASS Make sure everyone is done with pages 1&2 from yesterday. Volunteers can come draw their example on glass mode. Go to next slide for prime drawing/discussion

8 Prime Numbers Those numbers are called “Prime Numbers”. Turn and talk with your partner, and come up with a definition for Prime Numbers. Write descriptions on chart paper

9 Composite Numbers Numbers with more than one multiplication combination are called Composite Numbers. Turn and talk with your partner to identify some of these numbers.

10 SQUARE NUMBERS Now, let’s see if we can create a square out of an array. First you have to know what makes a square a square….hmmm Can you and your partner use the tiles to come up with an array that is a square? Try It! These are called “square” numbers. Talk with your partner, and see if you can come up with a definition for square numbers! Add descriptions to chart paper

11 Puzzle Time! Because you are all so awesome at Math, you are now going to work on a number puzzle! Your answer must fit the clue.

12 Ready? This number of tiles will make a rectangle that is 2 tiles wide. Use your tiles to model some numbers. Then draw the array in your journal and label the dimensions! Don’t forget to write the equation! Click again for hint

13 Sharing Strategies What strategies did you use to solve the problem? Use chart paper and markers and use a flow map to show your thinking.

14 Sam, Toni and Carla started an exercise program
