Always married in the eyes of the church Always married in eyes of God Marriage is a sacrament Divorce breaks marriage vows Some marriages can be annulled – declared never to have existed

3 Bible Teachings Jesus said in Mark,” Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery.” Jesus said in Mark, “What god had joined together let no man separate.”

Divorced can not be remarried in church Those obtaining a civil divorce can be ex-communicated Those whose marriages are annulled can remarry in church

5 Protestants C of E reluctantly accepts divorce
C of E does not encourage divorce Accepts that in some cases it is the lesser of two evils Individual priests will decide if willing to remarry divorced persons Non – Conformists do not encourage divorce But take a more forgiving attitude Jesus said do the most loving thing Will remarry people in church Expected to attend preparation classes

6 Bible Teachings In Matthew, Jesus said, “ I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for unfaithfulness, and marries another woman commits adultery.”
