1. Day 38 Bell stART ELEMENTS of DESIGN Write in your sketch book: Todays goal-- In your sketch book create a value scale using a pencil. Draw a rectangle, 1 X 5. Inside the rectangle develop a gradual transition from light to dark with the edge of your pencil.

2. After you have completed your value scale: 1. Draw your photo image on your paper, focusing on one square at a time, until the entire image has been transferred with line. 2. Then, erase all grid lines before adding value. 3. Next, Evaluate the values represented in your photo, on a scale from 1-5 (1 is the lightest, 5 is the darkest). Use pencil to create a value scale that develops one consistent light source through out your image in the picture plane.

5. Day 40 Bell stART ELEMENTS of DESIGN Write in your sketch book: Tortillon- rolled tubes of paper that are used to smudge drawings. Use sandpaper and they are cleaned off, sharpened and ready to use again. Today and tomorrow you will work on your self-portrait Try to create a visible texture change in your drawing: skin, hair and hat Due at the beginning of the class on Monday, 10/21

Day 41 Bell stART ELEMENTS of DESIGN Write in your sketch book: In the negative/ground area surrounding your self- portrait, use text, for example: a poem, your favorite lyrics from a song or quotes, to complete your composition.
