1
AS BIOLOGY COURSEWORK SECTION C:- ANALYSIS
2
PROCESSING DATA CALCULATIONS /remember to show all your working Use the appropriate “RATE” formula Use the appropriate unit Complete a final table showing “Rate of Reaction V concentration” Include averages if appropriate Be consistent with numbers eg decimal places
3
DRAWING GRAPHS HOW MANY GRAPHS? 2 1 st GRAPH (use average rates and draw 1 line of best fit) 2 nd GRAPH (plot all your runs, changing symbol for each run) then draw in “ERROR BARS” see model
4
GRAPH WORK CCHECKLIST TTITLE LLABEL AXES (words and units) AACCURATE SCALE AACCURATE PLOTTING LLINE OF BEST FIT IIDENTIFY ANOMOLIES
5
WRITTEN ANALYSIS STEP 1 (2marks) DESCRIBE BASIC TREND eg “as the independent variable increases the dependent variable…………” REMEMBER to set in the context of your experiment!!!
6
WRITTEN ANALYSIS STEP 2 (4marks) DESCRIBE THE TREND IN DETAIL USING GRAPH 1 Split the line up if there is a change Label the sections eg “between points A-B, as the concentration increases from……to……, the rate ………from………. to………” REPEAT for other marked sections.
7
WRITTEN ANALYSIS STEP 3 (6marks) DESCRIBE ANY CHANGES IN GRADIENT You can calculate the gradient of your sections from the graph
8
WRITTEN ANALYSIS STEP 4 (6marks) IINTRODUCE SCIENTIFIC TERMINOLOGY / KEY WORDS AND TERMS eg write about your chosen enzyme as a PROTEIN etc write about how it brought about the chemical reaction write about its role as a biological catalyst
9
WRITTEN ANALYSIS STEP 5 (8marks) EXPLAINING THE SHAPE OF YOUR GRAPH Return to the sections eg A-B; in terms of active sites of enzymes and substrate particles explain why there was a rapid / steady / slow increase in rate as appropriate to YOUR graph REPEAT FOR ANY OTHER MARKED SECTIONS
