1 Ku Klux Klan Edgar Figueroa 8 th hour Language Arts

2 The origin of the Klan The Ku Klux Klan was formed by former confederates after the Civil War. It is a hate group against religion and race. These are some of the most heinous people in American history. The first leader was Nathan Bedford.

3 Really, how terrible was the KKK? The Ku Klux Klan's main goal was to eliminate all the African Americans from congress. They were going to succeed even if it meant murder.

4 How did the KKK justify what they did? They thought that this was the way thing were suppose to work. They belied that blacks should not run the government and they were going to do anything to stop it.

5 What type of people supported the Klan? The Klan had many supporter. These supporter were mainly former confederates and cotton farmers that lost there slaves under the 13 th amendment. It made them very mad that they are now being controlled by the people they previously controlled.

6 What were the punishments for these men that committed such gruesome crimes? Many people were scared to turn them in. They would threaten them and the lives of their family. Many men that were convicted were sentenced to death or many years in prison.

7 What is the story around their uniforms? The KKK’s uniform was designed for scare tactics. It disguised the member wearing it. The uniform the member is wearing is determined by rank.

8 It isn't over just yet! The KKK is still around in today's society. They don’t use violence against African Americans but they still hold meetings and practice the burning of the cross.
