3. NATA Volleyball Tournament – 2013 (NJ) TOURNAMENT FORMAT & POINT STRUCTURE Total 20 teams, Four Groups (A, B, C, D) with 5 teams in each group. First Round (Group Stage) – 20 Teams, 40 Games, single set per game 18 points per game Each team in a group will play with all other teams in their group 4 games per each team Top 2 teams from each group will progress to next level (Quarter Finals) Quarter Finals – 8 Teams, 4 Games with best of 3 sets per game Best of 3 sets (3 rd set will not be played, if a team win two consecutive sets) 21 points per set (18 points per set, In case of insufficient time) Winners of QF will progress to next level (Semi Finals) Semi Finals – 4 Teams, 2 Games with best of 3 sets Best of 3 sets (3 rd set will not be played, if a team win two consecutive sets) 21 points per set (18 points per set, In case of insufficient time) Winners of Semi Finals will progress to finals Finals, - 2 teams, Best of 3 sets Best of 3 sets with 21 points per set (18 points per set, In case of insufficient time)

NATA Volleyball Tournament – 2013 (NJ) REFEREES: All matches will be refereed by neutral referees We will have one main referee, one second referee, one scorer and 2 line umpires(5 in total) for each match Keep playing till the referee awards a point. If you stop the play assuming that the other team committed a foul and if no foul was committed, you lose the point. The Main Referee's decision is final.

8. NATA Volleyball Tournament – 2013 (NJ) COURT FACTS: Court Dimensions: The playing court is a rectangle measuring 18 x 9 m (59’ x 29’6”) surrounded by a free zone. Center Line: The axis of the center line divides the playing court into two equal courts measuring 9 x 9 m (29’6” x 29’6”) each; however, the entire width of the line is considered to belong to both courts equally. This line extends beneath the net from sideline to sideline. Attack Line: On each court, an attack line, whose rear edge is drawn 3 m (9’10”) back from the axis of the center line, marks the front zone. Height of the Net The standard net height is 7 feet 11 inches. For NATA volleyball tournament it is set between 7 feet 8” to 7 feet 11” inches due to constrains of pole height at courts. Balls used for play: Mikasa VLS 300 (FIVB Approved official game ball)

NATA Volleyball Tournament – 2013 (NJ) Game Rules – Playing Format To Score a Point By successfully grounding the ball on the opponent’s court when the opponent team commits a fault Fault A team commits a fault by making a playing action contrary to the rules (or by violating them in some other way). The referees judge the faults and determine the consequences according to the rule and may award the point to opponent’s team. Rally and Completed Rally A rally is the sequence of playing actions from the moment of the service hit by the server until the ball is out of play. A completed rally is the sequence of laying actions which results in the award of a point. If the serving team wins a rally, it scores a point and continues to serve; If the receiving team wins a rally, it scores a point and it must serve next. To win a Set or Match: A set or match is won by the team which first scores XX points with a minimum lead of two points. In the case of a tie, play is continued until a two-point lead is achieved (example: 26-24; 27-25; …).

10. NATA Volleyball Tournament – 2013 (NJ) Game Rules – Playing Format (Continued) Team Starting Line-Up There must always be six players per team in play. The team’s starting line- up indicates the rotational order of the players on the court. This order must be maintained throughout the set or match. The players who are not in the starting line-up of a set or match are the substitutes for that set or match. Player Positions At the moment the ball is hit by the server, each team must be positioned within its own court in the rotational order (except the server). The positions of the players numbered as follows: Back Right  Position 1 (serving position) Back Center  Position 6 Back Left  Position 5 Front Left  Position 4 Front Center  Position 3 Front Right  Position 2

11. NATA Volleyball Tournament – 2013 (NJ) Game Rules – Playing Format (Continued) Switching Player Positions: Players are allowed to switch their positions once the server completes the serve. Switched positions remains active until the play completes for that particular serve. Players have to come back to their original positions before next serve starts. Failure to do so will result in Positional Fault (see below for positional fault details) Allowed player positional switch's: Front Center position (3) can switch with front right position (2) or Front Left position (4). Back Center position (6) can switch with front Center position (3) No other positional switches allowed for NATA volleyball tournament to provide participating teams with fair chances of winning the games. “Move to any Position” concept results in positioning your best spiker’s (attackers) on front row and best defense player on the back row most times which dampens the other teams winning chances. Please obey this rule in order to have better contest.

12. NATA Volleyball Tournament – 2013 (NJ) Game Rules – Playing Format (Continued) Positional Fault: The team commits a positional fault, if any player is not in his/her correct position at the moment the ball is hit by the server. If the server commits a serving fault at the moment of the service hit, the server’s fault is counted before a positional fault. If the server commits NO fault then positional fault will be consider. A positional fault leads to following consequences: Conceding a point and service to opponent team and Players positions are rectified Rotation: Rotational order is determined by the team’s starting line-up, and controlled with the service order, and players’ positions, throughout the set. When the receiving team has gained the right to serve, its players rotate one position clockwise: ( 1  6, 6  5, 5  4, 4  3, 3  2, 2  1) Rotational Fault: A rotational fault is committed when the SERVICE is not made according to the rotational order. It leads to the following consequences: The team is sanctioned with a point and service to the opponent team The player rotational order is rectified.

13. NATA Volleyball Tournament – 2013 (NJ) Game Rules – States of Play Ball in Play: The ball is in play from the moment of the hit of the service authorized by the first referee. Ball out of play The ball is out of play at the moment of the fault which is whistled by one of the referees; in the absence of a fault, at the moment of the whistle. In the case of an inadvertent whistle, the rally is ended. The first referee must make a ruling that will not penalize either team. Ball “IN” The ball is “in” when it touches the floor of the playing court, including the boundary lines/rope. Ball “OUT” The part of the ball which contacts the floor is completely outside the boundary lines. It touches an object outside the court or a person out of play Exceptions : Ball may be in play when it touch tree or tree branches (PLEASE see Tree Rules)

14. NATA Volleyball Tournament – 2013 (NJ) Game Rules – Playing the Ball Each team must play within its own playing area and space. The ball may, however, be retrieved from beyond the free zone. TEAM HITS A hit is any contact with the ball by a player in play. The team is entitled to a maximum of three hits in addition to blocking for returning the ball. CONSECUTIVE CONTACTS A player may not hit the ball two times consecutively SIMULTANEOUS CONTACTS Two or three players may touch the ball at the same moment. When two (three) teammates touch the ball simultaneously, it is counted as two (three) hits (with the exception of blocking). If they reach for the ball, but only one of them touches it, one hit is counted. At the first hit the ball may touch any part of the body provided that the contacts take place simultaneously.

15. NATA Volleyball Tournament – 2013 (NJ) Game Rules – Player at the Net REACHING BEYOND THE NET In blocking, a blocker may touch the ball beyond the net, provided that he/she does not interfere with the opponents’ play before or during the latter’s attack hit. After an attack hit, a player is permitted to pass his/her hand beyond the net, provided that the contact has been made within his/her own playing space. PENETRATION UNDER THE NET It is permitted to penetrate into the opponents’ space under the net, provided that this does not interfere with the opponents’ play. Penetration into the opponent’s court, beyond the center line: To touch the opponent’s court with a foot (feet) is permitted, provided that some part of the penetrating foot (feet) remains either in contact with or directly above the center line. To touch the opponent’s court with any part of the body above the feet is permitted provided that it does not interfere with the opponent’s play CONTACT WITH THE NET Touching the top of the net is a fault after attack hit or during the blocking of attack hit, but player hands/body can touch any other part of net upon attack hit or blocking provided that it does not interfere with opponent’s play

16. NATA Volleyball Tournament – 2013 (NJ) Game Rules - ADDITIONAL RULES TREE RULE: If your team hits the ball into the tree on your side of the court, you can continue to play as long as it is within the 3 touch rule. If the ball touches the tree branches on the opponent's court side or if it touches the tree braches on your side and goes over to the opponent's court, you loose the point. Carry Rule It is difficult to judge which is carry which is not a carry, so It is permitted to carry the ball as long as the carry does not directly result in a point. In case the carry results in a point, the point will be replayed. BALL TOUCHING THE NET Ball touching the net during the serve or when sending it to opponent’s court is valid as long as ball lands on opponent’s court. Re-Serve If a player tosses the ball but doesn't hit the ball, he is allowed to reserve.

NATA Volleyball Tournament – 2013 (NJ) Game Rules - ADDITIONAL RULES (contd) Switching Sides: Sides will be switched after 11 points in a 21 point game For best of 3 sets, teams switch after each set for first two sets and for last set switch after 11 points Substitution Rule Team is limited to 6 substitutions for game/set Upon Coin Toss Winner of coin toss chooses court or serve Time Outs Each team can take up to two 30 sec time outs per game/set
