2 Sources of Fiqh 4 main sources of fiqh: Qur’an Sunnah Mutawatir Sahih Hasan Da’if Mawdu Ijma’ (scholarly consensus) Qiyas (juristic analogy)

3 Sources of Fiqh Textual evidence must be examined from 2 perspectives: Authenticity of text (thubut) Focus on isnad (chain of narration) Meaning of text (dalalah) Focus on matn (text itself)

4 Fiqh Terms Fard (obligatory) Wajib (mandatory) Sunnah Muakkadah (strongly emphasized) Ghayr muakkadah (less emphasized) Mustahabb (recommended) Mubah / Ja’iz (permissible) Makruh Tahrim (prohibitively disliked) Tanzih (somewhat disliked) Haram (impermissible)
