1 DACH-3/5/7 AMERICA’S ARMY: THE STRENGTH OF THE NATION INTENTIONAL RELIGIOUS SUPPORT DACH-37/TR AS OF: 9 DEC 13 “FOR GOD AND COUNTRY” CHIEF OF CHAPLAIN’S QUARTERLY TRAINING 2 ND QUARTER FY14 (JAN-MAR 2014) Theme: Intentional Religious Support* Topic: Purposeful Ministry Introduction: Religious Support professionals are intentional in their efforts to serve the military personnel and Families around them. Terminal Learning Objective: ACTION: Increase your effectiveness for purposeful ministry. CONDITION: Trainers or individuals will need access to a computer with internet access. STANDARD: Participants engage in discussion and are able to provide three examples, then and now, how purposeful ministry impacts the mission. Presentation:.... 1.Process Groups. a. In small groups, then as a larger group, describe your observations to the following concept: We have been in combat for so long many people have lost their edge when it comes to the science and art of Garrison Operations. UMTs are now more familiar with Operations Orders and less familiar with how to do ministry in the garrison. Whether in garrison or deployed, ministry should be intentional. UMTs do not just sit in their office or tent and wait until someone else comes and sets the priorities of their day for them based on one individual crisis after another. Do you agree? Disagree? Why? b. The Word document, “Religious Operations in the Context of Garrison Operations” may be used to generate discussions (at http://www.chapnet.army.mil/  Resources  Chief of Chaplains Quarterly Training). In small groups, then as a larger group, discuss the importance of making an intentional plan utilizing the following: http://www.chapnet.army.mil/ all the people- not just those that show up on our thresholds issues that our people face- not just the ones we are good at dealing with who else can help you- not just doing everything yourself all of the resources available- not just those you can get at the last minute all locations- not just those near the headquarters an intended outcome- not do so something and then describe whatever it was as success. (Like shooting an arrow and drawing a target around it.) all phases – We do not always do the same thing even while the unit is doing different things all around us. means of communication- not people finding out things by accident. laws, regulations, policies and procedures- not the way we did it back in the civilian world. c. Army tools can help develop purposeful ministry. Consider how Mission Analysis and OPLANS/OPORDS can assist with intentionality. d. What are ways to shape your decision making? [Examples: Strong faith foundation; developing as an Army Leader / Army Professional.] e. Discuss vignettes that illustrate intentional ministry from our history or from people you know. An example is the document, “Chaplain Kapaun—How Did He Achieve Intentional Ministry?” located at http://www.chapnet.army.mil/  Resources  Chief of Chaplains Quarterly Training.http://www.chapnet.army.mil/ 2.Check on Learning: Give three examples, from your own experience, how purposeful ministry impacts the mission. 3.Conduct an AAR. -----------------------------SMEs on Home Station Ministry: CH (COL) Ran Dolinger; MSG Lisa West; Mr. Tim McHale ----------------------------- * This theme will intersect with the Army’s efforts toward cultural change—The Army Profession and the CCH’s FY13-14 theme of Religious Support Professionals within the Army Profession.
