1 Assessment Committee Committee Goals: √ Develop a district philosophy and belief statements regarding assessment and reporting. √ Identify and develop a plan for implementing best practices in formative and summative classroom assessments. √ Design report cards that reflect our grading philosophy, best practices, and our Vision 2020.

3 Where are our beliefs? Where are our Beliefs??…. The dots! *Grades should be calculated by combining class participation, homework, quizzes, tests and work quality *Teachers should be able to have the ability to determine their own grading practices based upon their individual philosophy of grading and reporting * Students in upper elementary and middle school view grades as the major commodity teachers have to offer in exchange for their performance. *The difference between summative and formative grades is the frequency in which they are recorded. * The Primary goal of grading and reporting is communication. *Grading is not essential for teaching and learning. * The purpose of assessment is to gather information for assigning students’ grades. *Evaluation is the sole responsibility of teachers. *A teacher supplies information, and the students are responsible for learning it * The goal of school is for students to learn.
