Fashion : Sub Pop's Jonathan Poneman said, "This [clothing] is cheap, it's durable, and it's kind of timeless. It also runs against the grain of the whole flashy aesthetic that existed in the 80's.“ Bands did not want to entertain, but were there simply to rock out: stage diving, crowd surfing and moshing became common place. Burnout of the metal culture – Americas youth did not feel represented and were depressed about the future. Rebellion: comparison drawn between grunge and Punk Rock. 10 The grunge ethos was that to succeed was to fail, this grew out of the fact that there was little money in Seattle and thus bands found it very hard to get signed: they grey to resent success. It was impossible for grunge to attain longevity without destroying it’s principle values. The only way to get their point across was to ‘sell out’ in their eyes, so why did they do it? Grunge brought the ‘live’ album back Hair metal of the 80’s was all about having a good time – this is a constant. No less gratuitous than metal Influences and ethos can still be felt today http://www.amazon.com
