4 UTC’S ROLE IN THE TRANSPORT SECTOR IN VIETNAM  Up to 2000: The University of Transport and Communications was the unique university in the field of transport in Vietnam.  Up to now: UTC has been “ the biggest and oldest center for training, scientific research and new technological transfer as well as supplying over 80% of labor resource for transport field in Vietnam ”. - Since its foundation, UTC has had some traditional disciplines such as civil engineering, transport economics, mechanical engineering, electrical-electronic engineering. Particularly, some disciplines such as railway engineering, locomotive-wagon … are uniquely trained at UTC.  UTC ’ s graduates have been undertaking various positions in transport field in Vietnam.  UTC is also a gathering place of all leading experts in transport sector who have participated in design, consultancy, assessment, testing, … for almost all important transport projects of Vietnam

10 Scientific research and Technological transfer  Developing and updating advanced technologies via scientific research projects and international seminars. Annually implementing hundreds of scientific research projects and organizing over 10 international seminars which attract many scientists, managers and engineers.  Applying new technologies to real status of Vietnam such as Bai Chay bridge, My Thuan bridge, Can Tho bridge, national route 1,…UTC’s professors and experts took part in these above construction sites.

11 international cooperation - The objective of external activities is “Cooperation-Development”. - UTC has relationships with a lot of organizations and famous universities of Russia, Germany, England, France, Japan, China, Singapore,...

13 Some specific results 1. Training more than 200 Laos and Cambodian students; 2. Sending many lecturers to study abroad by different budgets and scholarships or specific projects; 3. Over 200 students and lecturers have studied in France; 4. Over 100 students studied in Russia; 5. More than 500 students have studied at Southwest Jiaotong University, China; 6. About 100 students and lecturers have studied in Germany, UK, USA, Japan, Australia, Austria, Singapore, Thailand,… 7. Sending 10 lecturers to make an internship course at Technology University of Vienna, Austria.
