Objectives of the workshop (2) o Examine how NGN and the Internet are complementary. o Discuss how NGN will help fixed and mobile services converge. o Identify key standards needed and discuss how standards gaps can be filled.

NGN-2004 Project (1) o The aim is to include all ITU-T activities on NGN related standardisation o Target date for first set of Recommendations on NGN is mid-2004 (end of study period) o Work is underway on a common definition of NGN including the fundamental characteristics and capabilities

NGN-2004 Project (2) Seven study areas have been identified in the Project o General framework models for the NGN o Functional architecture models for the NGN o End to end Quality of Service o Service platforms (APIs) o Network management o Security o Generalised mobility

ITU-T 8 9-10 July 2003 Workshop on Next Generation Networks: What, When & How? NGN-2004 Project (3) Next steps o The project description will be revised to take account of the outcome of the workshop (at a project management meeting on 11July) o Study Group 13, at its meeting 21 July to 1 August will further work on the project and will issue an update (http://www.itu.int/ITU-T/studygroups /com13/ngn2004/index.html)
