The Italian situation CO 2 increase 1990-2001: +19% Air quality in towns: big problems with the concentration of small particulate (over EU limits) Congestion and noise: strong impacts, particularly in cities of the center-south Result: in 2001 33% of the drivers reduced the car use compared to the previous year (22% in 1995) But something is/was changing

Actions Technological: increase the car efficiency (voluntary agreement with car producers) Fuels: increase the use of natural gas, lpg, biofuels Increase the public transport share Innovative solutions (car sharing, flexible transport..) Demand side mobility management Public opinion involvment (car free days…)
