My Presentation Regular Spanish verbs are conjugated depending on their endings, (AR,ER, and IR) and their pronouns. If I want to talk about myself, the verb changes compared to if I were talking about another. In this presentation I will go over the three different types of regular verbs- IR, ER, and AR verbs. I will also go over their pronouns.
3
First type of verb… -AR VERBS
4
How to Conjugate –AR VERBS
Pronouns Ending Yo Tu El Ella Usted Nosotros Ellos Ellas Ustedes -o -as -a -amos -an } }
5
Explanation For –AR VERBS, if you are talking about yourself, yo, the end of the verb will be an –o. For example, if you had the verb hablar, to talk, and you wanted to say I talk with my friends in Spanish, you would say: Yo hablo con mis amigos. Yo is the pronoun, I, then you take the –AR ending off of hablar and add the –o to habl-. This gives you hablo. Then you add the rest of your sentence, in this case con mis amigos, or with my friends.
6
Examples of –AR Verbs Hablar/To talk Bailar/To dance Comprar/To buy
Caminar/To walk Tocar/To play an instrument Jugar/To play a game Tomar/To take or drink Cocinar/To cook Practicar/To practice Aceptar/To accept Acusar/To accuse Admirar/To admire Cantar/To sing Trabajar/To work Celebrar/To celebrate Dibujar/To draw
7
Second type of verbs… -ER VERBS
8
How to Conjugate –ER VERBS
Pronouns Endings Yo Tu El Ella Usted Nosotros Ellos Ellas Ustedes -o -es -e -emos -en } }
9
Nosotros comemos comida.
Explanation For –ER VERBS, if you are with a group of people, you will call yourselves we. The end of the verb will have – emos. So if you had the verb comer, to eat, and you want to say We eat food in Spanish, you would say this: Nosotros comemos comida. Nosotros is the pronoun, we, so you would take the –ER ending off of comer and add the –emos to com-. This gives you comemos. Then you can add the rest of your sentence, comida, or food.
10
Examples of –ER Verbs Comer/To eat Aprender/To learn Beber/To drink
Comprender/To understand Conocer/To know Correr/To run Creer/To believe Deber/To owe Hacer/To make or do Leer/To read Poner/To put Querer/To want Ser/To be Ver/To see Tener/To have Vender/To sell
11
Third type of verbs… -IR VERBS
12
How to Conjugate –IR VERBOS
Pronouns Endings Yo Tu El Ella Usted Nosotros Ellos Ellas Ustedes -o -es -e -imos -en } }
13
Ellos/Ellas/Ustedes deciden.
Explanation For –IR VERBS if you are talking about a group of people, you will say them. The end of the verb will have –en. So if you had the verb decidir, to decide, and you wanted to say, They decide, you would say: Ellos/Ellas/Ustedes deciden. Ellos/ Ellas/ Ustedes is the pronoun. You will use ellos for a group of boys, ellas for a group of girls, and ustedes for a group of boys or girls who need respect. If you had a group of boys and girls you will use ellos. This is the same for el/ella/usted. Because of the pronoun, you would take the –IR ending off of decidir and add on –en to decid-. For –IR verbs, it always helps me remember them if I remember –IR verbs and –ER verbs are almost the same. The only difference is that in –ER, nosotros’ ending is –emos, and in – IR it is –imos.
14
Examples of –IR Verbs Abrir/ To open Admitir/ To admit
Asistir/ To assist Cubrir/To cover Decidir/ To decide Describir/To describe Descubrir/ To discover Discutir/To discuss Escribir/To write Permitir/ To permit Recibir/ To receive Vivir/ To live Subir/ To climb up Sufrir/ To suffer Existir/ To exist Unir/ To unite
15
What if there are… Two verbs in a row?
16
What if there are two verbs in a row?
For example, I want to eat. Or, I like to sing. If you want to write two verbs in a row, I want to eat, will be: Yo deseo comer. Yo is the pronoun, I, and desear is made into deseo. But because we already conjugated desear, comer stays infinitive, or just keeps the –ER, -IR, or –AR verb ending. This will be the same with every situation like this.
