6. The Journey to the U.S. Most came by steamship. Most rode in cargo holds and were not allowed on deck. Travel conditions were poor.

7. Immigrant Processing Most European immigrants came through Ellis Island and Asian immigrants through Angel Island. Immigrants had to pass a physical. Other requirements –Pass literacy test in native language. –Prove they could work. –Have at least $25.
