6 The Journey to the U.S. Most came by steamship. Most rode in cargo holds and were not allowed on deck. Travel conditions were poor.

7 Immigrant Processing Most European immigrants came through Ellis Island and Asian immigrants through Angel Island. Immigrants had to pass a physical. Other requirements –Pass literacy test in native language. –Prove they could work. –Have at least $25.

8 The American Dream 1.What is your idea of the American Dream?  Jot down ideas about what the American Dream means to you. 2.Ask the following their idea of the American Dream:  Parents  At least one grandparent  Two high school students (not in Honors American History)  A younger student (middle school or elementary) 3.Create a piece of work that illustrates what the American dream is, how it is viewed by the different people you interviewed, and how it has changed over the years. You may write an essay, make a PowerPoint, make a poster, or present your information in any other way you choose. Pick a way that works best for you. Make sure it covers all of the above information. 4.Your assignment is due Monday.
