2. Location of SC
The Savannah River forms the western border of the state with Georgia.
The Blue Ridge Mountains, part of the Appalachian Mountains, are located in the northwest corner of the state.
The Atlantic Ocean runs along the eastern portion of the state.

4. SC’s River Systems
There are 4 major river systems in SC. These river systems are: the Pee Dee River Basin, the Santee River Basin, the Edisto River Basin, and the Savannah River Basin.
A river system is comprised of a number of smaller rivers that join one main river.
All of SC’s major lakes are man-made, formed by the damming of the rivers.

5. SC’s Major Cities Charleston—Port City Myrtle Beach—Center for Tourism
Greenville—rapidly moving rivers that flow out of the Blue Ridge

6. SC’s Climate
South Carolina is located within only one climate region, the humid subtropical region.
Although there are differences in climate within the state, those differences are minor and are affected primarily by elevation and proximity to bodies of water.
In general, the mountains are cooler than the coastal regions.
