Dual Credit Norfolk Senior High School NECC
2
W hat is dual credit? Dual credit classes are classes taken at the high school for both high school and college credit. Students get credit on both a high school and college transcript.
3
How does dual credit help students? Dual credit can give you a “head start” on earning college credits.
4
How does dual credit help students? Dual credit classes may mean: *electives can be added to a college program *a lighter class load might be possible during college *students might spend less time completing a college degree
5
How does dual credit help students? The tuition (cost) is lower than regular college classes, and in most cases students don’t have to buy a textbook.
6
How can students find out if dual credit will help? The only way to be sure a dual credit class meets a college requirement is to check with the college the student plans to attend. If students have not selected a college, he or she can check with more than one college. The registrars’ office at the college can answer questions regarding accepting dual credit.
7
How can students find out if dual credit will help? To check the NECC transfer guide: http://www.northeast.edu/about- us/accreditation/references/Transfer- Guide.pdf
8
Are students ready for dual credit? When students take dual credit he or she is a college student in addition to being a high school student which is an additional responsibility.
9
Aspects to consider include: Grade point average: The grade earned will be on the college transcript, and will impact college grade point averages. College grade point averages will count toward possible honors or admission to programs in college.
10
Aspects to consider include: Initiating teacher/college contact: If students have concerns/questions, will the student take the initiative to contact the teacher or college?
11
Aspects to consider: Testing and paperwork: Math and English Composition classes at NECC require minimum testing scores from the ACT or Compass test. All classes have registration forms. Some classes may have scholarship opportunities. That paperwork takes time, and must be completed correctly.
12
Aspects to consider: Students with good attendance, and good study habits are best able to be successful in dual credit classes.
13
What does dual credit at NECC cost? Tuition is $69 per credit hour! This rate is VERY inexpensive.
14
