O The ancient Aztecs of México kept track of time using a huge carved stone calendar known as the Sun Stone. O Huipil is the word for colorful, hand-woven blouses by descendants of Spanish immigrants. O Spanish-speaking countries use the Celsius scale to measure temperature. O The Running of the Bulls is a popular festival in España.

La escuela y el horario O Teenagers in Spanish- speaking countries like to do pretty much the same things you and your friends like to do – dance, play sports, and listen to music. O Students spend “el recreo” in the patio. O Many schools, both public and private, require students to wear school uniforms in Spanish-speaking countries. O The Spanish school schedule typically follows “military” time. 1 PM = 13:00, 2 PM = 14:00…. O Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz build a library of several thousand books which became the meeting place for many intellectuals of her time.

Los artistas y bailes O Mexican, Frida Kahlo is best known for her self-portraits. O Fernando Botero is from Colombia and has a unique, recognizable style. O La cabassa, maracas, y claves are typical instruments of the Caribbean. O The merengue, the tango(de la Argentina), the flamenco, and the salsa are dances popular in different Spanish-speaking countries.
