Setting up an E-XL A Step by Step Tutorial Engineering Consultants Group, Inc.

Purpose of an E-XL The E-XL application activates and sends Excel with DataLink spreadsheets configured by the end user. E-XLs may be sent through email, web-enabled mobile devices, or transferred by FTP to other computers. E-XL provides a secure mechanism to deliver process information to 3 rd parties who do not require PI tools for viewing.

Setting up the Excel Spreadsheet First open up Excel and using PI-Datalink write PE equations and/or vba code that you would like E-XL to process for you. The following slide is a screenshot of a possible Excel file.

Login to the E-Notification System Login using your username and password. Click the Log In button to continue.

E-XL Options Use Add/Edit to add new or edit existing E-XLs. Delete will allow you to delete a specified E-XL. Toggle will enable/disable the E-XL. View will allow you to view the E-XL(s) of your choice. Click Add/Edit to continue with the tutorial.

Adding a new E-XL (Cont’d) Here there are two options: Upload an E-XL. Subscribe to an existing E-XL. We will explain these options in order.

Uploading an E-XL File Click Browse to locate the file that you will be uploading Edit the filename for the E-XL as desired. *Note: The filename may be no longer than 10 characters.* Give a description of the E-XL that you are uploading. (This will be the subject of the e-mail).

Adding a new E-XL (Cont’d) After clicking Browse, a window will appear to select the.xls file that is to be uploaded. Select the appropriate file and click the Open button to choose the file.

Adding a new E-XL cont… After finding the file you want to upload, ensure the other information is correct. Click Upload File.

Configuring the E-XL The E-XL configuration will appear. To Enable/Disable the E-XL, check/uncheck the appropriate checkbox. Choose which Format you would like the E-XL to be displayed as. Choose a Destination for the E-XL. *If choosing FTP, see the user manual for more information on setting up the FTP.*

Configuring the E-XL cont… Specify any Additional Email Addresses you would like to send the E-XL to. Check here if you would like to Share this E-XL with other users. Choose a Schedule for the E-XL to be sent to the destination. To delete the E-XL, click Delete. To edit your file, click Edit. To run the E-XL, click Run Now. To proceed, click Save.

The E-XL has been added The creation of a new E-XL is now complete. You can now continue adding more E-XLs or modify the current ones using the buttons explained earlier.

Subscribing to an E-XL Choose the E-XL you would like to subscribe to from the dropdown box. Click Create Subscription to continue.

E-XL Configuration Enable/disable the E-XL by checking/unchecking the associated textbox. Select the format of the file that will be sent to you from the Format dropdown box. Check this box if you would like the E-XL to be displayed in the email. Choose a destination from the choices provided.

E-XL Configuration (Cont’d) To send to additional email addresses, add them here (comma-separated list). Choose a schedule for the E- XL. To duplicate the existing E- XL, click Duplicate. To trigger the E-XL now, click Run Now. To delete the E-XL, click Delete To continue with the subscription, click Save.

E-XL Completed This completes the section on subscribing to an existing E-XL. *The green dot indicates the E- XL is enabled, to disable use the Toggle as mentioned earlier.* Click Add/Edit to continue with the tutorial.
